Zelda Boss Hints That Traditional Linear Zelda Games Aren't Coming Back Any Time Soon

With The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom selling millions of copies and raking in awards, questions have been raised about what’s next for the Zelda series, and whether or not the future may include blasts from the past. Franchise head Eiji Aonuma is here to pump the brakes, as he says the traditional linear Zelda adventures of old won’t be coming back any time soon.

Speaking with IGN, Aonuma expresses his belief that those views come from a “grass is greener” mentality–where people have a tendency to want the things they don’t currently have. He continues by stating that the current Zelda format does have a “set” path; however, that path is chosen by the player rather than the designers.

New Uncharted Trailer Sticks The Landing On Stunts

Sony Pictures Entertainment has released a new trailer for Uncharted, which will debut in movie theaters on February 18.

Compared to the previous trailers released in October and the one in December, this one is all about the action. There’s still a bit of quipping interplay between Tom Holland as Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg as Sully, but that takes a backseat to–for example–once again spotlighting the iconic cargo plane scene, which is almost a shot-for-shot remake of the sequence from Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. Check out the new trailer below.

Sunday’s Xbox Showcase and Starfield Direct showed off plenty of upcoming games for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC, and after the show, more details were shared on the cadence of first-party releases that Microsoft is aiming for. After a dismal 2022, Microsoft wants to release “at least four” first-party games a year, if possible.

“Our ambition is to release at least four first-party games a year–although we’ll also balance that out with careful consideration for each project’s needs,” Xbox Wire editor-in-chief Joe Skrebels explained. “That’s on top of the work our teams are doing to grow our existing communities that we’ve fostered over many years like The Elder Scrolls Online, Sea of Thieves, Minecraft, Forza, and so on.”

This isn’t the first time that Microsoft has …

Xbox Isn't Done Acquiring More Companies, Phil Spencer Suggests

Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has suggested the Xbox company might not be finished buying game studios. Speaking to Squawk Asia, Spencer said Microsoft doesn’t have the luxury to be able to slow down due to the competitive nature of the gaming market. He pointed to some of the biggest companies in gaming, Tencent and Sony, who are bigger than Microsoft in games and continue to acquire and invest in more teams and content.

“This is such a competitive market. I don’t think we get to press pause on anything. Tencent is the largest gaming company on the planet today, and they continue to heavily invest in gaming content and game creators,” Spencer said. “Sony is a larger business than we are in gaming today, and they continue to invest. It’s a highly, highly competitive market. We…

You Can Try Resident Evil Village In Your Browser Right Now

In the rare bit of Stadia news, Google has used the same streaming tech to allow players to try out a Resident Evil Village demo right from their browser– both on mobile or PC.

To get started, you’ll enter your date of birth and then click on the button that reads “One-click-play.” If your internet connection is solid, the game should start up after some load time. If you don’t have a controller, you can play it with the mouse and keyboard on PC or touchscreen controls on mobile. You can also play it as many times as you like. Keep in mind that streaming games can have a substantial data cost. The website itself estimates about 12.6 GB an hour. It’s something to remember if you have data limits.
